Wieden & Kennedy cleans up at the Webbys

Wieden & Kennedy was named agency of the year at the 23rd Annual Webby Awards in New York last night, on the back of award-winning work including Nike's Colin Kaepernick "Dream Crazy" tweet, Bud Light's "Dilly Dilly" and KFC's "Return of Colonel Sanders."

Following its big wins last week at Ad Age's A-List and Creativity Awards, which included Agency of the Year and Campaign of the Year honors, the independent shop picked up six Webby Awards and seven Webby People’s Voice Awards. It also earned more nominations across all categories than any other agency this year. 

Nike's "Dream Crazy" tweet performed particularly strongly, picking up awards for Integrated Campaign, Viral Marketing, Best Viral PR Campaign and Integrated Campaigns—Branded Entertainment.

Other agencies with multiple nominations included BBDO New York, for work including AT&T's "It Can Wait" campaign; TBWA/Media Arts Lab, for campaigns such as Apple's "Welcome Home;" McCann New York, nominated for campaigns such as "The Most Vicious Cycle;" and R/GA, whose work included "Samsung x Fortnite: The Galaxy Skin." BBDO Worldwide took home the first ever Webby Award for Network of the Year, with the most pieces of winning work across all Webby categories.

Among the other notable winning campaigns were Tourism Australia and Droga 5's Super Bowl campaign, "Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns Home," which picked up awards for Travel Social Content Series and Campaigns and Integrated Campaigns (Video). Amazon Prime's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Carnegie Deli Pop-Up," created by production company Tool, won Best Launch—PR, and Burger King's "Whopper Detour" by FCB New York won awards for Brand Strategy, Digital Campaigns and Best Use of Mobile Media.

Libresse's risque "Viva la Vulva" film by AMV BBDO earned honors for Health, Wellness, Pharmaceutical Branded Content and Best Art Direction, and the New York Public Library's "Insta Novels" by Mother New York won both a Webby award and a People's Voice Winner for Best Use of Social Media.
